Twig + Tale Welcome Blog Tour - The Pixie Pea Coat and Pixie Pants sewn by Candice Ayala of CandiceAyala.com

Hello Lovelies!

Welcome to my stop on the Twig + Tale Welcome Blog Tour sponsored by Art Gallery Fabrics.  Twig + Tale formerly known as Big Little, is known for their whimsical and adventure themed brand of patterns, so I think the new name fits them  perfectly!

Twig & Tale is a place where imagination runs wild and is for everyone who shares a love of creativity and an adventurous spirit. It’s a celebration of the innocence of childhood and the wonder of nature. It’s about comfy clothes and warm things like hugs and capes and coats. It’s about handmade, love, and imaginary play—featuring classic, simple patterns that inspire us all to tell a story.

I was pretty excited to learn that Art Gallery Fabrics would be sponsoring the fabrics for our sews, and I gotta tell you, picking fabrics was probably the hardest part of this entire project! [haha]  I wasn’t sure what my outer fabric would be for the Pixie Pea Coat but I knew the Yinghua Cherrylight from the Pandalicious Collection would make for the sweetest coat lining. Seriously, look how lovely the insides of my Pixie Pea Coat looks! ( My OCD is pretty proud of how neat my turning hole came out so I had to shameless post a pic haha)

I was also excited when I discovered AGF‘s Denim Studio a while ago, so I jumped at the chance to use some for the Pixie Pants. I went back and forth between all the beautiful patterned and colored denim prints, but I’m a sucker for sweet and simple so I went with a solid, smooth, blue denim called Afternoon Sail. When the fabrics arrived I realized just now nicely they paired together and decided to use the denim as the outer fabric for my coat. The denim is very soft and lightweight, which was perfect, because even though we’re suppose to be experiencing cooler Fall temperatures, our temperamental California weather seems to think that it’s still summer time. I carefully calculated my cuts and I managed to get both the coat and the pants cut, but unfortunately neither of them would have pockets. *insert sad instrumental music here*  lol.

The Pixie Pea Coat is unisex (always a plus for a pattern) and runs from a size 1 -14, it is fully lined, with easy hooks or button holes and neck options that include Pixie Hood, Classic Round Hood or a Collar. I opted for the collared version and used some rose pink colored snaps for my closures. (For the mere reason that they were the perfect shade of pink to match the insides of the coat. Don’t you just love when that happens?!) I did make a slight modification, (that was also suggested in the pattern tutorial) and added 2 inches to the length of the sleeves so that they could be rolled up to show off more of the lining.

I was my first time making a lined coat, and it was easier than I anticipated. I love sewing something up for the first time, and even more so when it’s with beautiful fabric. #TheSpiritedOne was pretty pleased with her coat and comfy pants too, she was happy to go on an adventure.

I think the Pixie Pants are one of my new favorite sews. It has a stylish flat front with an elastic back and optional inseam side pockets. It was a quick sew and provided perfect coverage for my adventurous girl.

    1. Thank you so much Audrey, I’m a little obsessive about finishes, I will tell you, that I might have ripped it out a couple times before I was satisfied with it…hahaha.
