DIY – Creating a LINED Child’s Dress from an Adult Shirt

I know its been a minute since my last blog post but it’s been so incredibly busy! I’ve been focusing a lot of time on www.SewingPortfolios.com and building our user database.  *brace yourself for shameless plugin to follow*

NOW LET’S GET INTO THE REAL REASON YOU ARE HERE!! I upcycled another shirt!  I didn’t plan to sew this week, but I came across this shirt in the closet while putting away laundry and it matched #thespiritedone’s sandals so perfectly, I just had to snatch it! I won these gorgeous Madison Aviators from JoyFolie last year and now I want to sew all the things just to match them. It was one of those things that hit you with instant inspiration and I had to get it out of my head.

Went into the closet to put stuff away… but my eye caught this shirt… it matched her shoes perfectly! ……uh…@shaunayala I owe you a new shirt #isew #iupcyclethings #sewingblogger #sewingforgirls #ipurposelypostedaftericutuptheshirt

Father’s Day is coming up, and I wanted to experiment more options using my own DIY UPCYCLE TUTORIAL I created a couple years ago, and decided to put the buttons in the back for this one.  You can find my tutorial on how to create a LINED Child’s Dress from an Adult Shirt HERE. or by clicking the banner below.

 

What I like most about this sew, is that I can use the original button placket as my up cycled dress closure with a nice, clean lined bodice, while keeping original hem of the shirt. So no worries on closures or hemming! You can literally accomplish this sew in under and hour! I wanted to keep it simple, but you can totally add pockets, some fancy trim, sleeves etc. (The tutorial explains how you can do that, here I used the Tea Party Dress by Tadah Patterns for my bodice.)
