DIY Child’s Top to Dress

Hey guys,

A couple months ago Abigail brought me one of her favorite store bought tops and asked that I make her a dress just like it, because it was cool and breezy and also it was hot as a tamale in SoCal.

The top was pretty old, so instead of trying to find a pattern just like it, I decided to just take the top a part and use the original pieces as my pattern pieces. This is one of my favorite upcycling tips because not only does it give you all the pattern pieces, but it also keeps the original seam allowances so I don’t have to do any extra math! It does take a little patience to carefully rip seams, and then iron everything out, but it really is an easy process and totally worth it in the end.

I’ve been hoarding this Telio Denim Embroidered Single Border Floral from Fabric.com and decided it was a perfect mix of cool, breezy and fashionable.

I took advantage of their 20% off Labor Day sale and actually just ordered some more, along with this beauty! Look how gorgeous those colors are!

She’s worn the dress a couple times, but I decided to photograph it to test out my latest DIY Photo Back Drop. Here are some super cheesy action shots:

The pattern pieces are super basic, and I’m thinking I could turn this into a very simple PDF file and pattern tutorial, if you’re interested in making it yourself, let me know in the comments and I’ll get on it! Thanks so much for stopping by today, have a safe and wonderful weekend!

I am interested in the pattern. This dress isn’t beautiful. Would really appreciate if you create a tutorial for this. My kid would love it. Thank you!

I meant to type – this dress is so beautiful. I hate autocorrect. Apologies
